WBFF Fox 45 :: Political Season Takes an Ugly Turn in One Midstate Neighborhood
The closer we get to the Presidential election, the more vandalism of political signs we're seeing across Metro Nashville. A homeowner says she caught a man attacking a Romney/Ryan sign on her personal surveillance camera. In the video you can see the man pulls up, jumps out and hits and stomps the sign until it falls. In another neighborhood, somebody shot paint balls through an Obama sign. Tammie King calls it an assault on her Freedom of Speech.

"He came on our private property and tried to destroy a sign that we paid for and it irritates me to no end that this is a free country, so we should be able to support the candidate of our choosing without any ramifications from it," says King.

Police say anyone who is caught vandalizing a sign could be charged with a Misdemeanor.Political Season Takes an Ugly Turn in One Midstate Neighborhood

2 appellate court judges are stepping down
May 24, 2013 21:29 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Tennessee appellate court judges have notified Gov. Bill Haslam that they will not run for another term on the bench in the August 2014 retention election.

Patricia J. Cottrell, a judge on the Court of Appeals, and Joseph M. Tipton, who sits on the Court of Criminal Appeals bench, will both leave after September of next year.

The announcements come after the state legislature left Tennessee without a way to replace judges who step down or die when a commission expires at the end of next month.

Members of the soon-to-be-defunct Judicial Nominating Commission will make recommendations for replacements to give to Haslam before the panel expires. Haslam will appoint the replacements from those recommendations.
