Donald Peden, 35, was arrested overnight for attempted homicide of his girlfriend at her home in east Nashville.
According to Metro police records, an incident occurred on Sept. 20 where the victim was found unconscious and bleeding by her minor child after suffering head trauma and a cut throat.
Near the victim's body was a knife and sledgehammer with blood on them. The victim said she and her boyfriend got into an argument and only remembers being hit in the head by him.
The car belonging to the victim and Peden, who was not on scene, was missing. He was picked up by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Giles County after getting into an accident with the missing vehicle. While being interviewed by police, Peden threw bloody socks at the detective.
Due to the extent of the victim's injuries, police believe the intent of Peden was to murder the victim.
Peden is being held in the Davidson County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.
Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).
Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.
MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.
CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
