WBFF Fox 45 :: TBI Calls in ATF to Search Through Wreckage in 2-Week Old Bedford Co. Fire
More than two weeks after a deadly Bedford County house fire the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is joining the search efforts for two missing children.
The agency has deployed its National Response Team to see if they can find any remains of 9 year old Chloie Pope or 7 year old Gage Daniel.
It's the same team that was activated to sift through wreckage of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombings, the 1995 Oklahoma City bombings and the 2006 Alabama church arsons.
This time the ATF's National Response Team is in rover looking through ashes for the remains of Chloie Pope and Gage Daniel.
Kristin Helm says, “I think that they were just at a point in the investigation where they just needed more hands to be on the ground searching through that fire debris.”
Mary Lamb says, “To see the ATF coming in it's a relief that people are still trying to find the children and we want them if we can find them.”
Local agencies recovered the remains of grandparents: Leon and Molly McClaran in the ashes of the fire... But their grandchildren have not been found.
Kristin Helm says, “Actually sifting through debris by hand to look for remains that maybe smaller than what we initially looked for again it is just a very thorough and systematic approach to going through that debris to see if we can locate these children.”
Family members say it's difficult understanding that finding the children's remains would bring them closure- but also knowing they would be gone.
Leon McClaran says, “All of us would love to see their little smiling faces again but we may not have that option because at this time they haven't been found we just don't know.”
Since the fire family members have been coming to watch the search efforts from sun up to sun down- they say being near the site brings them comfort and they will continue until the children are found.
The TBI says there have been no indications the children could be somewhere else - but they will keep the amber alert active until the children are found.

Miss. chooses new firm to run Woodville prison
May 18, 2013 20:50 GMT

WOODVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi officials have picked a new company to run the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.

Utah-based Management and Training Corp. announced Friday that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has chosen it to run the 1,000-bed prison starting July 1, the Natchez Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/10MvOGv).

Corrections Corporation of America, based in Nashville, Tenn., had run the prison since 1998. MTC says it will keep "the vast majority" of employees.

MTC will get a five-year contract to run the prison with two one-year options. Last year, officials chose MTC to take over East Mississippi Correctional Facility, the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and the Marshall County Correctional Facility from the GEO Group. MTC won 10-year contracts for each.

CCA still runs the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility and the Adams County Correctional Center in Mississippi.
