WBFF Fox 45 :: State Health Experts Say Local Clinics Not to Blame for Meningitis Cases Here
Tonight state health officials are restricting the use of drugs form the New England Compounding Center. The pharmacy is being blamed for distributing contaminated steroid drugs linked to the Meningitis outbreaks in 7 states including Tennessee. State health officials say FDA testing confirms the epidural steroid injections were contaminated with the Aspergillus fungus. 3 clinics in Tennessee received the drugs. Officials say so far there have been 3 deaths and 29 cases of Fungal Meningitis found in Tennessee. It's why they're restricting the use of any drugs from New England Compounding Center.

"Without certainty to their other products' integrity, we believe it is important that these products not be used," says Health Commissioner Dr. John Dreyzehner. "We know the CDC and FDA are investigating other NECC products and we know this important effort."

Health officials say the incubation period for Fungal Meningitis is anywhere from 7-28 days. It's why they expect the number of cases reported in Tennessee will rise.State Health Experts Say Local Clinics Not to Blame for Meningitis Cases Here

State officials to hold seat belt campaign event
May 24, 2013 08:11 GMT

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (AP) -- The Governor's Highway Safety Office plans to announce its "Click It or Ticket" campaign on Friday.

The event is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. at the Robertson County Courthouse in Springfield.

Nationally, statistics show seat belt use increased significantly in 2012 as compared to 2011 among drivers, right-front passengers and backseat occupants.

However, officials say more than 400 of Tennessee's crash fatalities last year involved unrestrained drivers or passengers.

The Governor's Highway Safety Office urges all motorists to buckle up.
