WBFF Fox 45 :: SAVING YOU MONEY: Costumes for Less
We're SAVING YOU MONEY tonight on Halloween costumes. The National Retail Federation says Halloween spending will top $8 billion this year, and if you've started shopping for one, you know the prices can be pretty scary, especially for something that's a one-time wear. Whatever your kids want to be, you can find it for a fraction of its original cost. You just have to know where to look this Halloween, and consignment sales and consignment stores have some sweet deals.

"A lot of people are having to stretch their money and that might be considered a luxury and they can still look fun and do it on the cheap," says Ladies of Charity's Peggy Bradley.

At the Catholic Ladies of Charity Sale on State Street in Nashville, we found costumes for 1/4 of what you'd pay retail, many still in their original packaging. See how easy it is to save? You can transform into a magical witch for less than $10. At one of the regular retail haunts, it would be $25 or more. They're making high prices disappear.

"With Halloween coming up, where else can you get a costume for $3.99?" asks Goodwill's Jamie Berry. "I just think this little thing is precious."

Most Goodwill locations have a great costume selection, much of it new. We also snapped pics of great deals at Factory Card Outlet - popular character costumes: $10. Finally, don't forget to let your fingers do the looking. Bargain websites like Craigslist and eBay have quite the selection too. One other great way to save is to borrow costumes from friends or family. An even trade for the night works well too. Your child wears their child's costume from last year and vice versa.

May 23, 2013 22:00 GMT

By ERIK SCHELZIG Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Queen Elizabeth's youngest son, Prince Edward, is visiting Tennessee to promote one of the British royal family's charities, the Duke of Edinburgh's awards.

The prince presided over an awards ceremony at the governor's mansion in Nashville on Thursday for the first batch of young Tennesseans to participate in the leadership and character program.

About 80 youths received the award by participating in community service, skills development, physical fitness and adventurous journeys through the Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, LEAD Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy or the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Organization.

Following the event, Gov. Bill Haslam and first lady Crissy Haslam invited the awardees and their families to tea inside the governor's residence. Later on Thursday, the prince was scheduled to headline a black-tie gala at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.
