WBFF Fox 45 :: Beford Co. Search Efforts: One Week Later
The search for two children has gone from a community effort... To a nationwide search.
The TBI’s issued an amber alert for nine year old Chloie Pope... And seven year old Gage Daniel of Bedford County.
Another day of searching using K-9 units... And another day of wondering.....
Mary Lame, victim’s sister says, “It is very hard we all want an answer to it and we want to know where the children are.”
It has been one week since this home in the rover community went up in flames taking the lives of grandparents Leon and Molly McClaran.
But what happened to the grandchildren living in the home... 9 year old Chloie Pope and 7 year old Gage Daniel remains a mystery.
Business owner, Gary Cantrell says, “Wonder about where they are at and what happened it has got the community upset.”
Family says they don't want to assume someone has the children…
But after TBI agents could not find a trace of their remains...they are not ruling out foul play.....
Leon McClaran says, “It's possible I mean their bodies weren’t found really, we don't know.”
The lack of evidence to prove the children died in the house fire has prompted a nationwide search.
But no one is working harder to dig up answers than people in this small town.
In the close-knit community of Unionville... Several business fronts have flyers like this one at L and L Deli and Market.
Gary Cantrell says, “The people that work here are ready and willing to help do anything they can and I think if somebody just has one clue possibly that could solve it.”
And parents whose children attend school with Chloie and Gage have found a way to remind the community... One of their own is missing....
Mary McClain says, “They're two small children and they don't know what they are going through and I want everybody to see these bows and remember Chloie and Gage and bring them back home safely.”
And while the nation continues to search... Close to home, hope remains that one day.... Chloie and Gage will be back with their family.
Gage has hazel eyes and brown hair he is 7 years old, 4 feet tall and weights 50 pounds.
Chloie has blue eyes and brown hair, is 4 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 75 pounds.
Anyone with information about the children should call TBI.

Updated conservatorship statute effective July 1
May 21, 2013 12:49 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Gov. Bill Haslam has signed into law revisions to the state conservatorship statute.

The law allows the court to appoint a conservator to manage the assets of a person a judge finds unable to handle his or her own affairs.

State Rep. Andrew Farmer, a Sevierville Republican, told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1183hjy ) the intent of the bill he sponsored in the House is to make sure people aren't being taken advantage of.

The bill sprang from a series of hearings statewide by the Tennessee Bar Association. They revealed there were no uniform procedures for placing a person's assets under a conservator on an emergency basis.

The changes take effect July 1.
