WBFF Fox 45 :: Fire Marshal Says No Evidence of Children's Remains In Burned Bedford Co. Home
The investigation into a deadly Bedford County house fire takes an unexpected turn as the state fire marshal's office opens the door to the possibility the bodies of two young children believed to have been killed in the fire are not in the rubble.  A statement from the fire marshal's office Wednesday afternoon says "based on extensive examination of the Bedford County scene by our office and MTSU's Forensic Anthropology Group, that there are no remains of the two children in the structure.  The children's location at this time is unknown."
A Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter outfitted with infrared cameras flew over the area Wednesday looking for unidentified heat signatures on the ground.  The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation joined the investigation Wednesday at the request of Bedford County's District Attorney.   County officials have repeatedly said there is no evidence of foul play or any reason to believe the children were not in the home.
The bodies of the children's grandparents, Leon and Molly McClaran, were recovered Monday and sent to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy.  The McClarans were raising their grandchildren, 7-year-old Daniel Gage and 9-year-old Chloie Pope.  Relatives tell Fox 17 they believe the children were in the home with their grandparents when the fire broke out late Sunday.  The home was fully involved when firefighters arrived and collapsed into the basement complicating the search for remains.

Rebar finishing will add 40 jobs in Knox County
May 21, 2013 11:13 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Another 40 jobs are coming to Knox County as Gerdau (gair-DOW') expands its steel reinforcement bar plant.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development says the new facility will apply finishing services to rebar now made at the company's Lonsdale mill.

TDEC Commissioner Bill Hagerty and Gerdau officials announced the expansion on Monday, saying the plant will have the capacity to finish about 120,000 tons of steel per year.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett said it was good to see a vacant building in the WestBridge Business Park be put back into industrial use.
