Philip Shadowens New Gig
Philip Shadowens is embarking on a new charter in his career.
The former Smyrna head coach is taking over the reigns at Middle Tennessee Christian this season.
For many, the thought of leaving the two time defending champs for a team that went 2-8 last season wouldn't be appealing.
But not so for Shadowens.
He says, "It was time because of my family. Not because of any other reason. Not because we'd won two in a row, and none of those things. Everybody wants to talk about that, great time to leave. That had nothing to do with anything. It was that God made perfectly clear that it was time for me to be here with my kids."
Sure enough, Sydney, a freshman at MTCS and Katie, a 7th grader, are at practice to check out dad at his new gig.
Coaching a young, and hungry, group of Cougars that won only twice last season.
Senior Eric Compton says, "I think I've learned more as a football player in this spring and summer than I have in a couple of years."
Dillon Wade says, "He believes in us. And him believing in us, makes us believe in our selves. We're ready to rock and roll."
And so is their coach.
Shadowens says, "I'm excited about the future here. Really excited."
The Cougars kick off the season August 29th against Perry County.
