Columbia Baseball Star Now an All Star-(Dave Foster)

Columbia's Dan Uggla has a pretty impressive resume.

He's in his third major league baseball season.

And already suited up in two all-star games.

Dave Foster has more on Uggla's roots that stretch from Maury County to Yankee Stadium!

Announcer:"for the Florida Marlins, Dan Uggla!"

Columbia central baseball coach Mark Pickle always knew Dan Uggla could hit the ball.

Even if he didn't necessarily know the kid in this picture would be a major league all star!

Mark Pickle:"when he was in high school, he was one of those kids you look at and say 'you know, he's got a chance to play major league baseball,' but a lot of things have to work out.

Things have definitely worked out for Uggla, who also represented the national league in Monday's home run derby.

The 28-year-old has become one of baseball's most feared sluggers.

But football coach Vance Belew also remembers Uggla as one of the lions' most feared quarterbacks.

Vance Belew:"Daniel was a baseball and football player. a fine competitor. he loved to go out and compete besides being a great athlete."

Uggla's football days may be over.
but he's still crushing baseballs.
and his former coaches enjoy watching.

Pickle:"it never gets old and in fact, it's probably the first thing i do at night."

Belew:"you always like to see your former players go on to success. it's just an exciting experience for our school as well and we're extremely proud of him. "

Dan Uggla.
The former lion who remains the pride of Columbia central!
