It's a sport you may never have heard of.

It's called Speedminton and as Fox 17's Dan Phillips reports backyard barbecues may never be the same!

Two rackets. 8 pilons and a speeder that travels up to 1-hundred-75 miles an hour. Think of it as badminton on steroids or chuck hamby: "it's instant tennis court in a can. you can get all your strokes in, it's an absolute blast to play. and with no net involved, it takes two minutes to setup."

And you can set it up almost anywhere the sand, the snow and coolest of all in the dark.

The game is a hit with one group you might not expect chuck hamby: "our soldiers are buying quite a few. they're really excited about it. they play it in the sand, and absolutely love it."

So do 100-thousand others around the world Speedminton sprung up just 6 years ago in Germany and now, the forty-dollar kits are being sold to people as far away as fiji.

It's no surprise that tournaments are popping up as well.

chuck hamby: "we've got them in 30 different countries right now. Some of them solely put their tournaments on the beach. There's a place in Colorado that only does theirs on the snow. It's a new sport, it's pretty flexible, being that you can play it anywhere and people are playing it everywhere."

And at anytime day or night how fitting for a sport who's future appears bright.
