Hall and Oates-Stacy McCloud
The iconic duo Daryl Hall and John Oates release their first ever box set.
It's called "Do What You Want, Be What You Are."
Narrowing down their long career to just 74 tracks was no easy task, but they enjoyed the walk down memory lane. Oates says, "Every song reminds us of the people, the circumstances, the emotions that inspired us to write the songs so it's really like a journey through our life."
Hall says, "We found unreleased live material which is really interesting from the early days especially and in our journals I found old lyrics to the songs and old pictures."
Back on the road, the guys are having a great time with their fans. Oates says, "Our audience is getting younger but yet at the same time our older fans have remained loyal over the years."
But there's nowhere like the city of brotherly love. Hall says, "It's a very different perception of us because it's our childhood home and people from Philadelphia treat each other like family it's like we have millions of cousins, aunts, and uncles there."
When they're not on the road, Daryl quickly hops online.
Hall says, "I started for the last 2 years I have a web series called Live from Daryl's house and it really brings a lot of these new bands literally into my house and we play and sing."
And they like to help out artists that are just starting out. Hall says, "We're both in the position where we are mentors as well as performers now and we're not passing the torch but we're sharing the torch."
And although they each have a lot of separate projects, there's more "Hall and Oates" to come. Hall says, "We've been doing this since we were kids, together, and I don't see any reason why we wouldn't want to play those songs together. I can't even fathom it." Hall and Oates-Stacy McCloud
