Blake Lewis became famous as the beat-box singer on season four of American Idol.
Lewis just released his second album.
Lewis brings a dance beat to his second album, "Heartbreak on Vinyl."
He says these are the jams he wanted to record all along.
Lewis says, "I come from the dance culture being a rave kid and host of all these underground parties in Seattle growing up until now and on my first record I wanted to do the same thing but they weren't having that. So this time I actually got to make the record I wanted to make."
Lewis has learned a lot since his debut album.
He says, "Whether it's a mixing engineer, producer, fellow writer, I'm just kind of a sponge. That's why I beatbox and make weird noises with my mouth. Whether in car, gym, it's a dance record people like to work out to dance music and get pumped for a game you know about to play a football game they want something to pump them up and this record has that kind of energy."
As for Idol, Blake is proud he helped pave the way for contestants to step outside the box. He says, "I was just being myself you know just trying to have fun, rearranging songs and producing I looked at American Idol as a remix competition so I just try to make every song my own and have a good time with it and I think Adam Lambert and David Cook do the same thing."
And he's looking forward to seeing how things work out with the new panel of judges. Lewis says, "I was really sad to hear that Paula was leaving. But I agreed with her I think all the judges should have been paid fairly and even. But with Ellen coming in it's great, I've always been a huge fan of hers and she'll bring her energy and her positivity to the show."
He'll have to tune in from the road as he makes his way across country for a new tour. "Just being on that stage and connecting with my fans and hanging out with them afterwards I usually stay for an hour 2 hours after the show and meet everyone."Blake Lewis-Stacy McCloud
