Esmee Denters-Stacy McCloud
She's an internet singing sensation discovered by one of the biggest stars in pop music.
Esmee Denters was in Nashville Monday for a concert.
She was an unknown singer from Holland who posted some videos on Youtube for fun.
Now 3 years and more than 1.5 million web hits later, this Dutch girl appears to be on her way to stardom.
Denters says, "My dad used to have records around. Anything from Stevie Wonder, to The Beatles, to Nirvana, so there was always a lot of music growing up around me, just was always singing."
The 21 Dutch girl from a little town in Holland had a big American dream. She longed to be on stage, singing for a living, and be signed to a label in the United States. But when she posted home videos on YouTube about three years ago, she could never have imagined what would happen next. "Record companies started contacting me, calling my house. I thought it was a joke because a lot of people on internet are fake," she says.
Esmee became the number one most subscribed to musician in the history of YouTube and one of those viewers just happened to be pop sensation Justin Timberlake.
Esmee says, "I was just a young girl, dream of singing and all of a sudden just this big idol, Justin Timberlake standing in front of you...and I was like okay this is my one shot I am going to head to piano and sing a song I sang Prince, 'How Come You Don't Call Me.' I guess he must of liked it cause a month later I was signed."
Now, about a year and a half later, Esmee is signed to Tennman Records, has her own album coming out, and is on tour opening for "Honor Society." It's what she calls an amazing, yet nerve racking, opportunity.
However, she shouldn't be too nervous, considering her first time performing was in front of 50,000 people as an opening act for her new boss.
"The first gig was preshow for future sex and love sounds tour which was crazy cause that was the first time I was actually on a stage."
Esmee Denters, proof that dreams really do come true.
"Sitting in my room recording videos with my big sisters webcam and look where I am now. I would say to everyone. Follow your dreams. Even if it's corny .. it works."
Esmee opened for the tween sensation "Honor Society" at the Rutledge Monday night. You may remember them- they were in Nashville opening for the Jonas Brothers about a month ago and are currently headlining their own tour.
Esmee's 11 track album "Outta Here," featuring songs she co-wrote, is scheduled to hit the U.S. in January.Esmee Denters-Stacy McCloud
