"It feels like Christmas Eve," says Shatika Johnson.
Johnson is the latest recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home, and with 5 children and one grandchild between the ages of 2 and 19, she could certainly use the space.
"To be able to have their own room is what my kids are most excited about, that's what I want for them is to be excited and comfortable in their own home," says Johnson.
That's why she got her hard hat and tools in hand to help bring it to life.
"It's like the best feeling in the world I'm real excited," says Johnson.
She won't have to wait long. The whole thing will be done in 22 days.
"You've got to be prepared, you gotta be organized," says Habitat for Humanity's Chip Wilson.
Wilson is in charge of the site. He says even though the work is hard, the people make it worthwhile.
"This is the only site I've ever been on where everyone wants to be here, whether it's the volunteers or the families, everyone wants to be here," says Wilson.
Soon it will be home for Johnson, and though she had to take hundreds of hours of classes to qualify, she says the process has changed her life.
"You got to really want to do it, but it's not hard," says Johnson. "What's hard about wanting to own your own home?"
In addition to hours of a number of classes Johnson had to take, she also volunteered several hours to help build the home of 2 other Habitat for Humanity families.
