Nashville Man Talks about Having H1N1-Cindy Carter
Middle School teacher, Scott Field, never dreamed he would get the dreaded H1N1 virus until a splitting headache stopped him in his tracks.
Scott Field says, "It was the kind of sickness where you don't even want to sit up. You just feel better laying down."
Field is one of just 104 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in Tennessee.
Though a few students from his school have had the flu this year, Field thinks he might have been infected with H1N1 after breaking his hand.
He says he walked into a local hospital for treatment and "may" have walked out with the virus.
Field says, " I was in the emergency room and unfortunately, I was sitting next to a woman who was very sick and was, in fact, throwing up in the ER."
Field says a few days later he couldn't get out of bed.
A trip to his doctor and a test run by the state lab confirmed field's diagnosis.
"It was pounding headache. Congestion, cough, aches. The thing that was different though, was that there wasn't much fever."
In fact, Field isn't the only patient, doctor's say who hasn't had a high fever which is something that could throw patients off.
Field says the serious symptoms went away after a few days but a cough and minor symptoms stuck around for some time.
He jokes the "really" frightening symptoms never surfaced.
"I didn't have a curly tail or a snout nose. I did roll around in the mud however."Nashville Man Talks about Having H1N1-Cindy Carter
