Could There Be Toxins in Your Pets Toys?

You've heard about lead in some children's toys, but what about lead in your pets toys?

There's now some concern among animal experts that lead could exist in the toys we buy our four legged friends.

Dr. Amanda Cassetty / Veterinarian: "It certainly could happen, and it's not something that should be taken lightly."

While some major pet stores like PetSmart say they borrow regulations from the children's toy industry, and test on their own accord, toys for pets don't have to be tested. That's because there is no one federal agency that oversees or regulates pet toys.

Jennifer Simmons / PetSmart Spokesperson: "Unfortunately there aren't any concrete regulations for pet toys at this point, but there's been a lot of talk in the industry that that should be something that we all take a heavy consideration and look at."

Dr. Amanda Cassetty: "Until there are more studies done, I'd recommend toys that do not contain or have any paint or any type of metal at this point."
