NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A recent Macon County blaze was just one of 5 deadly fires in 5 days that claimed the lives of 8 Midstate residents. State-wide there have been 11 deaths over the past 7 days.
"Every life is precious that we lose, and it's tough as professionals to deal with it day in and day out, but that is one of the things that drives you to work that much harder the next day," says Tennessee Fire Marshal Bomb and Arson Section Director Dewey Woody.
Woody says roughly 2/3 of all house fire deaths happen in homes that don't have smoke detectors, and to prevent more fire related deaths in Tennessee, the Department is taking a closer look at the Tennessee Fire Mortality Map.
