NASHVILLE, Tenn -- For as long as she can remember, Olia Zavozina has been designing clothes.
"Since I was a little girl I dreamed of making gowns. First I made barbie doll dresses and then my own."
Olia was born and raised in Russia and moved to America when she was 18. She never went to design school. She got her masters in business while learning from a Russian seamstress that she ironically met when she moved to Nashville.
"Se taught me about pattern making, how to drape, it was great learning from someone with 40 year experience." says Zavozina.
Olia knew she wanted to be a designer, but never thought she would make wedding dresses.
"I thought brides are crazy, why would I ever do that and then when I got married I realized it's not the bride that's crazy it's those in the industry."
Now less than 10 years later she is one of Nashville's most well known wedding gown designers, with her own shop and her designs in 17 stores, seven of which are Nordstrom Wedding Suites!
"I feel like I can make a difference and be a part of such a big day and feel like I am helping somebody" says Zavozina.
Her dresses now hang next to some of the most well known designers in the world, but one thing that makes Olia stand out is that she is the only designer in the market that customizes every dress, for free.
"I felt like it wasn't fair for a bride to have to pay all these fees just because of their shape or how tall she is."
Olia says this giant step in her career makes her more motivated. The only downfall is that she isn't around as often, so she doesn't get to know all the brides, or her favorite part, attend the weddings.
"Usually I would come to office and look at the dresses hanging in the bags and know who the brides are. Now I come in and say, who is Lindsey and what did she get."
Olia is having a bridal event at her shop in Edgehill Village this Thursday from 4pm -7pm. Everyone is invited to attend.
Olia actually designed two dresses for Entertainment Reporter Stacy McCloud's big day last spring.
