Great savings can be had come tax time if you tally up your medical expenses now. This is the time of year to get out all those receipts for doctor and dental visits, prescriptions, wheelchairs, even weight loss and smoking cessation programs. If it all adds up to 7.5% of your gross, it's a big tax deduction. If you're close, but just shy of the 7.5% mark, get a physical or a medical procedure you've been putting off before December 31.

The State of Tennessee is giving energy efficient appliance rebates if you buy a qualified Energy Star replacement. There's over $1 million in rebates left, but this program runs out January 14.
