Meningitis Outbreak
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The fungal meningitis outbreak last fall was the biggest public health scare in the U.S. in years. Over 700 cases and 46 deaths in 20 states, 14 of them here. It was an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt who connected the dots, linking that outbreak to tainted steroids. It isn't the first time these special lab coat detectives have hit a home run.
