Meningitis Outbreak
The CDC confirms an unopened vile of the same steroid given to patients at a St. Thomas pain clinic center and 2 other Tennessee clinics contained an unidentified fungus. That fungus is being blamed for 35 Meningitis cases in Tennessee and 5 other states. 25 of those cases and 3 of the 5 deaths in the outbreak are here in Tennessee. Tonight, federal health officials are urging doctor's offices and hospitals to set aside any medicine that came from NECC, the specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts that produced the tainted steroid.
