Williamson County woman accused of faking cancer to raise money on GoFundMe
NOLENSVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
A woman is behind bars in Williamson County after authorities say she faked cancer to raise money through GoFundMe.
Michelle Shawn East, 45, is charged with theft over $10,000 after being indicted by a grand jury.
Nolensville Police say in December 2016, some residents complained of being scammed by trying to help East, who claimed she had caner and started a GoFundMe. The fundraiser has since been taken down. It's not known at this time how much money East's fundraiser accumulated.
East is set to be arraigned on April 30 at 9 a.m.
