City of Shelbyville: White nationalist protests end without violence

A statement from the City of Shelbyville applauds residents and agencies who helped in efforts of public safety.

Hundreds of "White Lives Matter" protesters and even more counter-protesters descended upon the city Saturday morning for a rally.

A man who says he was a counter-protester was cited for disorderly conduct.

Protesters and counter-protesters were kept on separate sides, rallying behind barricades.

A man was taken into custody by police at the "White Lives Matter" rally in Shelbyville.

Reporters on the scene said the man was protesting pm the white nationalist side of the rally.

The man's father has since reached out to Fox 17 News and said his son was a counter-protester.

About 200 to 300 white nationalist protesters are at the rally in Shelbyville. Reporters on scene estimate the amount of counter-protesters to be about double that number.

The rally wrapped up around 1 p.m.

Protesters from multiple sides have started to gather in Shelbyville.

The League of the South and other white supremacist groups are slated to hold a "sidewalk" rally from through 1 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Lane Parkway.

Several counter-protests are planned throughout the morning.

There's a heavy police presence in Shelbyville Saturday morning ahead of a planned white nationalist rally.

The League of the South and other white supremacist groups are slated to hold a "sidewalk" rally from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Lane Parkway. Several counter-protests are planned throughout the morning.

Officers from several law enforcement agencies are gearing up to keep everyone safe as events unfold. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Friday they would also have a presence at the rallies to support local law enforcement.

Some protestors and counter protestors have showed up.
