PHOTOS: Massive sinkhole opens up after water main break in Cookeville
PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) —
A Putnam County road became washed out due to a water main break Tuesday morning.
Photos sent into FOX 17 News show a part of East Spring Street/Highway 70 completely washed out. The roadway has since re-opened according Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton.
The break apparently happened to a 14-inch water main at about 2:20 a.m.
Drivers were asked to avoid the road from the Board of Education/Highway 111 until Beverly Hills Market/Chuck Johnson's Nursery.
The city of Cookeville is working with the Tennessee Department of Highways to determine the next steps for the road.
