Trial begins for Hendersonville father charged with killing daughter
HENDERSONVILLE, Tennessee--The Hendersonville father accused of shooting and killing his 11-year-old daughter will stand trial today.
Timothy Batts is facing charges of reckless homicide and tampering with evidence for the August 2016 shooting of daughter Timea.
Timea was shot on the first day of school after being dropped off by the school bus and returning home. At first, Batts allegedly told police she had arrived home with a gunshot wound, but later admitted he accidentally shot her after the startled him.
Parts of the shooting were captured on a home surveillance system. Batts was freed on bond following his arrest but a judge later revoked the bond following a failed drug test while on release.
The positive test was disputed by Batts' attorneys, who claimed it was due to previous use before he was released from jail.
