Tennessee A.G. files suit against pain clinic alleging millions in Tenncare fraud
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III has announced a lawsuit filed against 18 Tennessee pain management clinics.
The suit filed in Williamson County Circuit Court claims MMi Pain Clinics totaled millions of dollars in TennCare fraud dating back to 2006.
Owner and operator Michael Kestner and business partner Dr. Lisabeth Williams are named in the suit as filing the false claims for personal gain. MMi clinics are accused of charging at least six times more than normal for injection reimbursements.
The suit also alleges Kestner coerced MMi providers to perform unnecessary injections on insured patients by rewarding financial bonuses or threatening to fire them if they didn't perform more procedures.
The suit is calling for $7 million in damages, plus civil penalties.
