Teen arrested in 2017 murder, rape of East Tennessee girl
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has arrested an East Tennessee teen for the 2017 murder of a teen girl.
The TBI says they assisted the Etowah Police Department on July 1, 2017 investigating the disappearance of 18-year-old Kelsey Burnette. Days later, on July 4, the search for a missing person turned into a death investigation after her body was discovered on the side of a road.
The TBI says during the investigation, they developed a juvenile as the suspect and the individual turned themselves in to police. The TBI is not releasing the name of the teen at this time but say the teen is from Etowah.
The teen was charged and booked into the McMinn County Jail on June 21 for one count of felony murder and one count of aggravated rape.
FOX 17 News sister station WTVC Chattanooga has confirmed the suspect is Joseph Wielzen and his arrest on the same charges is related to the case.
