The state will not plant trees and shrubs to hide a statue of civil war general Nathan Bedford Forrest on I-65.
TDOT Commissioner John Shroer denied the request on Monday.
Metro Council voted unanimously earlier this month to ask the state to plant trees and bushes to block the view of the statue of the confederate general and Ku Klux Klan founding leader.
Governor Bill Haslam says he's working to find out what the state can legally do, since the statue is on privately owned land.
