Cookeville Police's SWAT, CNT teams rescue child, prevent suicide
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
The Cookeville Police department said expert teams were able to save a child and prevent a possible suicide late Wednesday night.
Officers were dispatched to a home along Terry Avenue to reference to a drug overdose at about 11 p.m.
A woman told officers that Brian K. Cooper, 44, was inside the home with a 4-year-old child, armed and threatening to kill himself. During their investigation, police said Cooper confronted officers then retreated into a room and shut the door. Officers heard a single gunshot from the room. Attempts to contact Cooper were unsuccessful.
The department's SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) responded and successfully removed the child, who was unharmed.
Cooper was eventually taken taken into custody by SWAT members and subsequently transported to the hospital for evaluation. Charges are pending against Cooper.
