Springfield students headed to national skills competition for cosmetology, nail care
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
Two Tennessee college students are headed to a national skills competition.
Michaela Danielle Harris and Sarah Taylor, both students at Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Springfield, won the nail care and cosmetology competition, respectively, at SkillsUSA in Chattanooga.
“Our names were up there, we were all shocked,” Harris told Fox 17 News.
Harris said no one from TCAT has been to the national competition in more than 10 years for cosmetology, and never for nail care. The two are excited for the chance to compete on a national level.
“We couldn't have done it without the guidance of our instructors Mrs.Reese and Mrs.Heard. Also everyone who supported us from the Nashville campus,” Harris said.
If Harris and Taylor win at the national level, they will travel to Abu Dhabi to compete in the world competition.
"It means so much to both of us. It's like a dream, it's a once in a lifetime thing. It still doesn't feel real that we're both state champions. We have loved the experience so far and hope to continue to keep going, learning more and meeting new people," Harris and Taylor said.
