Rutherford Detention Deputy arrested, charged with rape of a child

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said a detention deputy was fired after his arrest Thursday.

Detention Deputy Mark Garza is charged wth rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery.

Garza was placed on administrative leave with pay on April 18 while he was the subject of an investigation from Murfreesboro Police. Ten days later, he was put on administrative leave without pay.

Garza was fired Thursday after he his arrest for the above charges. According to an arrest report from Murfreesboro Police, Garza is accused of forcing the victim onto a bed in October 2013 and raping her.

Garza was hired June 20 and still on probation when fired.

He was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and released on $150,000 bond.
