BON AQUA, Tenn. -- The driver of a reported stolen car is dead after being shot by a Dickson police officer during an altercation.

The incident began in Dickson on Sunday afternoon, where a stolen jeep was spotted and pursued by a police officer, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The pursuit was continued into Hickman County and ended on Buckner Ridge Road at Bear Creek Road, where a second Dickson officer arrived.

Three people were in the vehicle, says the TBI. One passenger ran away and is on the loose. Another passenger stayed and is being questioned.

The driver also ran, but was followed by a Dickson police officer. He apparently pulled a knife on the officer, who shot and killed him during a physical altercation, according to the TBI.

Chris McRae, a neighbor who witnessed the incident, tells FOX 17 Reporter Matt Alvarez, "We were just sitting outside and we just heard commotion coming up Buckner ridge road- we heard a shot just all the commotion, and carrying on, and the cops coming in."

The investigation is ongoing. The case is being turned over to the District Attorney General for review.
