Nashville man dies while hiking in Great Smoky Mountains
NASHVILLE, Tenn.--A Nashville man died while hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the Alum Cave Trail over the weekend.
National Park Rangers reported to a call of a man in cardiac arrest on Saturday morning.
Rangers say 47-year-old Phillip Basset Davenport was hiking with friends on the trail when he passed out three miles from the trailhead. Bystanders helped administer CPR until medics responded, but Davenport was pronounced deceased just over an hour after the call came in.
Rangers carried the deceased Davenport three miles down the trail where he was transported to LeConte Medical Center.
