Nashville International Airport offering nonstop flights to London 5 days a week
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) —
The Nashville International Airport will be offering nonstop flights to London Heathrow five days a week via British Airways
The inaugural flight will take place on May 4, 2018.
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Nashville Mayor Megan Barry made the announcement Tuesday.
It's the first nonstop flight from Nashville to Europe in 20 years. The flight be be offered on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Up to 1,070 passengers can make the trek each week.
The 214-seat flight will depart London Heathrow at 3:45 p.m., putting it into Nashville at 6:50 p.m. local time. The outbound flight from Nashville will be scheduled to leave at 8:20 p.m., arriving in London the next day at 10:30 a.m.
The state is providing $1.5 million in incentives to British Airways to support the launch of the international flight, while the city government will provide a "stop-gap" of up to $500,000 to cover potential losses by the airline.
More than 50 city, state business and community leaders made the flight happen, Haslam's office said.
