Metro Police said a Nashville gas station clerk was arrested after shooting at a man who had fled the store with an 18-pack of beer without paying for it.

It happened about 2:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Kwik Sak at 2012 S. Hamilton Road.

Clerk Said Hermina, 31, is charged with aggravated assault for shooting at suspect Jerry Smith Jr., 44, who was charged with misdemeanor theft for taking the beer worth $17.99.

Police said when Smith went to purchase the beer, his credit card was declined and he ran out the door. That's when Hermina chased after him and fired three shots, hitting Smith in the leg.

Smith has since been treated and released for his injuries.

Hermina is being held on a $10,000 bond.
