Middle Tennessee schools again cancelling classes due to flu, illness
Some middle Tennessee schools are again cancelling classes due to the flu and other illnesses.
Perry County Schools said more than 120 students were out on Wednesday due to illness. They are closed for the remainder of the week. Jackson County Schools said they're also closing for the rest of the week due to widespread illness among teachers and students. Coffee County is also closed Thursday and and Friday due to illness. Other schools that have canceled classes for the rest of the week so far include Maury County, Putnam County and Humphreys County.
Most schools are also closed Monday, Feb. 19 for President's Day.
Free flu shots are being offered around the state on Friday is efforts to combat the illness. Parents should also keep an eye out for strep throat, which Vanderbilt doctors say is going around middle Tennessee.
So far, seven children have died in Tennessee due to flu-related illnesses.
