Police: 26 year old dead; 20 year old, 14 year old injured in Cayce Homes shooting


UPDATE (5/20): A 14-year-old identified as Mario Woodard and shooting victim Motel Sowell are facing homicide charges in the death of Travis Rosemond.

Witnesses tell police the teen and Sowell were the ones who exchanged gunfire with Rosemond. Surveillance video shows Sowell tossing a possible handgun to another person who left the scene.

Woodard and Sowell were both shot. Sowell is still recovering at Vanderbilt Medical Center.


UPDATE (6:20 p.m.) Metro Police are working to identify a man at the scene of a shooting at Cayce Homes on Friday that killed one man and injured to others.

MNPD said 26-year-old Travis Rosemond died from his injuries. Montel Sowell, 20, was shot in the stomach, and Mario Woodard, 14, was shot in the arm. Both Sowell and Woodard are expected to recover.

Police said two groups shot at each other around 1:15 p.m. in the 620 block of 8th St. S. near Sylvan Street in the Cayce Homes development.

Police said multiple shots were fired by multiple weapons. They aren't sure at this time if more people are involved and no suspects have been named.

When police arrived on scene, Rosemond was sitting in passenger seat of grey Buick. Police said he was visiting a friend at the complex.

Woodard ran to his apartment after being shot in the arm and was later transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Detectives are working to identify another young man present at the time of the shooting.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Metro dispatchers said at least one person has been transported and others have reportedly been injured in a shooting in East Nashville.

The shooting call came in about 1:35 p.m. in the 620 block of 8th St. S. near Sylvan Street in the Cayce Homes area.

Initial reports indicated three people had been involved in the shooting.
