Man dies after beating by Nashville security guard left him brain dead
NASHVILLE, Tenn. —
Metro Nashville Police said a man died on Christmas night after he was beaten up by a security guard at a Nashville club in October.
Police said 20-year-old Shamar Davis's death is being investigated as a homicide.
Security personnel escorted Davis out of Jazzy’s Restaurant & Lounge on Hampton Street on Oct. 15. According to MNPD, Davis punched one of the security guards in the head and was thrown to the ground in the back parking lot.
Officers said Lamar Clay then jumped on top of Davis and punched him in the face while he was still on the ground.
David suffered a head injury and did not recover. An arrest affidavit said Davis was brain dead and in a coma shortly after he was taken to the hospital.
Clay was charged in November with attempted criminal homicide and was freed on bond. MNPD detectives are discussing upgrading the charged with the district attorney's office.
