Hendersonville officials vote on purchasing part of Batey Farms property

(Fox 17 News)

The City of Hendersonville voted to purchase part of Batey Farms on Tuesday night.

Batey Farm sits on 73 acres. It’s up for sale for $4 million. The city is looking to purchase the lower parcel of the farm, 35 acres for $3 million.

A group known as Friends of Indian Lake Peninsula are looking to raise enough money to purchase the upper portion of 38 acres for $1 million. So far the non profit group has raised nearly $500,000.

“The main idea is to keep it a passive park,” said Len Jannaman with the Friends of Indian Lake Peninsula. "Passive meaning it’s not a sports complex but a place everyone can come to, walking trail, biking trails."

If the city and private group of citizens can’t come up with the money to purchase Batey Farm, developers are waiting to scoop up the entire 73 acres and build some 200 homes.
