Funeral, vigil planned for Belmont University student killed in Waffle House shooting

Family and friends will mourn the loss of a life taken too soon as funeral services and a vigil have been planned for De'Ebony Groves.

The 21-year-old from Gallatin was among four killed on Sunday when a gunman opened fire at Waffle House in Antioch.

A vigil is planned for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Centennial Park. A flyer for the event says, "We will miss your smile."

Groves attended Belmont University and was part of the Greek community.

"It’s with great sadness that the Belmont community mourns the tragic loss of social work major DeEbony Groves, a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, who was killed yesterday in the Antioch Waffle House shooting. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her family, friends and the other victims of this tragedy, and on campus support services are being made available for Belmont community members." - Belmont University

A short obituary was posted on the Johnson & Coleman Funeral Home site: "Ms. DeEbony Groves transitioned from this life into eternal life suddenly on Sunday, April 22, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memories a host of loving and devoted family members, church members, and friends. The completed obituary will be forthcoming. Please keep the family of Ms. DeEbony in your thoughts and prayers."

The man accused of murdering Groves and three others is now behind bars in Davidson County.
