Fentress County Sheriff Chucky Cravens is resigning amid an investigation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Cravens' lawyer confirmed his resignation announcement to Fox 17 News on Friday. It takes effect on April 28.

Here is the full text of Cravens' resignation letter:

Dear Commissioners,

Please accept this email, sent via my lawyer, as confirmation of my resignation as Sheriff of Fentress County, effective April 28, 2017. A letter will follow under separate cover.

It was an honor to serve the people of this county, and I deeply regret the circumstances that have led to my resignation.

Chucky Cravens

Cravens is a lifetime resident of Fentress County and was a former sheriff and police officer before being reelected in 2014.

FBI and TBI agents seized multiple computer files, records and Cravens' truck. Cravens was questioned at the local District Attorney's Office on Tuesday.

”This is a good day for a lot of people in this county,” resident Jack Baker Sr. said about the seizures on Tuesday. “I thought there would be a whole bunch of people cheering, but I am cheering in my heart because nothing I hate worse than someone who abuses their authority or neglects their authority.”

Right now, the FBI will only say it is investigating allegations of impropriety.
