Emergency crews responded to a home fire in Mt. Juliet on Thursday night.

Firefighters responded to a call for a structure fire at a home on Crystal Court around 7:30 p.m. WEMA said there was heavy smoke coming from the home but no fire when fire crews arrived.

"They attempted to make access through the front door and was met with a lot of debris and personal belongings, almost a hoarder-type situation," Shift Commander James Copas said. "They then moved to the back side of the house and encountered the same thing."

There are reports of a person possibly in the home, but Copas said they have not been able to confirm that because of the lack of access to the house. The Wilson County Sheriff's Office has been working to make contact with the person through his work and ex-wife.

Copas said the fire has been difficult to locate, but they believe it is mostly under the floor in a very large crawl space, which is three feet or more from the sub-floor.

Firefighters were attempting to make access to the fire through a side brick wall of the house to fight the fire under the floor.

"The biggest hurdle to that has just been the amount of stuff inside the house," Copas said. "Not so much the fire conditions or the smoke conditions but the amount of stuff. They were met basically, they said they were able to make it about five feet in the front door and said they couldn't get any further."

WEMA said all firefighters were accounted for, and no injures have been reported as of Thursday night. The home is a total loss.

Both WEMA and the Mt. Juliet Fire Department were on the scene to try to knock the fire out and finish the search.

WEMA left the scene at about 2:25 a.m. Friday after an extensive overhaul process. The agency said there is nothing more to report from the scene.
