Police identify toddler killed, family injured in Antioch apartment fire

UPDATE (5:30 p.m.) Metro Nashville Police identified a 3-year-old girl killed in an early morning apartment fire in Antioch.

According to the MNPD, Elizabeth Dessie was killed in the fire. Her parents, 33-year-old Endalamaw Dessie Tesfaye and 32-year-old Ehitayehu Dessie, and her 5-year-old brother were all badly burned in the fire.

Endalamaw Dessie Tesfaye remains in critical condition. Both Ehitayehu Dessie and the 5-year-old boy are in stable condition.

The blaze broke out about 4 a.m. Monday in the 500 block of Piccadilly Row at the Stone Ridge apartments.

Crews on scene told Fox 17 News the mom, dad and toddler were outside when crews arrives, but the toddler was trapped inside the complex.

The two-alarm fire displaced residents from four apartments, which were totally destroyed. About 22 people are displaced.

The complex said it has enough housing for the displaced residents. and the apartments will be move-in ready within 24 hours.

The fire marshal is on scene investigating and has given no information as to the cause of the fire.

Metro Councilwoman Tanaka Vercher is asking for clothing, food and toiletries for those affected.

Items needed include:

  • Men's shirts - size large and XL
  • Women's shirts- size small, medium and large
  • Children's clothing - size 5, 6, 8, 11, 16
  • Men's shoes - size 9, 10, 11
  • school supplies

All donations should be brought to the apartment complex's front office at 500 Piccadilly Row. Donations will be collected Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One child is dead and several others are displaced after a fire breaks out at an apartment complex in Antioch early Monday morning.

The Nashville Office of Emergency Management says the fire started around 4 a.m. in the 500 block of Piccadilly Row at the Stone Ridge apartments.

Crews say when they arrived on scene, they could see flames coming from one of the apartment units. Firefighters on the scene confirmed that one child died and three people were taken to Vanderbilt hospital for fire-related injuries.

Right now, about 20 people are displaced due to the fire. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, but the fire marshal is expected to investigate.
