NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Two people are critical after a three vehicle accident in south Nashville that injured four others.

Metro police say a white truck came down the hill from Montelle Lane at a high rate of speed Wednesday after 7 p.m. It crossed into lanes of Old Hickory Blvd., causing a collision with an SUV. The two occupants in each vehicle sustained non-critical injuries.

However, a small pick-up also crashed in the accident. It struck a utility pole, trapping two passengers who needed to be extricated. They went to Vanderbilt Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

While no charges are filed at this time, police say the preliminary contributing factor in the crash is failure to obey a traffic control device.

There is no evidence of alcohol or drugs involved. The investigation is ongoing.
