NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A veteran who has waited months for healthcare finally gets answers after FOX 17 News shares his story. We told you about Navy veteran James Roberson about two weeks ago.

Roberson had an urgent need to see an eye doctor, but he claims he was getting the run around from Nashville's VA hospital.

While many might dread visiting the hospital, James Roberson is looking forward to his next appointment. "I don't know what you guys did, but I got all kinds of appointments now," says James Roberson.

Roberson told us earlier this month about his frustration. His eyes were injured many years ago during his time in the Navy, but after numerous phone calls, he couldn't get an appointment. "You call one person they tell you to call another person. You call that person and they tell you to call another person. They put you in that circle, and you wind up not get anything done," says Roberson.

Shortly after our story ran, that all changed. James started receiving phone calls, and he now has several appointments scheduled, including one for cataract surgery. It turns out James had some high-ranking help. "Actually your story brought him to our attention," says TN Rep. Sheila Butt, (R) Maury County.

State Rep. Sheila Butt and her assistant Jan Wright were moved by our story. "We know that up here we have an opportunity to help some people who can really use our help, and we take advantage of that at every opportunity," says Rep. Butt.

A few calls to the state Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA did the trick. "We want our veterans to know that the state of Tennessee cares about you, and we will help you at every opportunity," says Rep. Butt.

"I couldn't believe it. First of all she said House of Representatives, and I'm a like what?," says James Roberson. James is happy that his story got attention. Now he hopes other veterans waiting for care will get appointments too.
