Hermitage Precinct detectives arrested on Wednesday a convicted felon suspected of shooting a resident on Maplecrest Drive who was preparing to leave for work in the early morning hours of July 9.

Lee Russell Wilson, 29, was located at a pawnshop on Gallatin Pike with McGavock Pike, according to a press release from the Nashville Police Department. The release said Wilson has been interviewed and has admitted to shooting Steven Thames, 41.

Police were called to Thames’ home in the 2400 block of Maplecrest Drive at 3:30 a.m. on July 9. It was reported that Thames had gone outside to his truck and found a man inside it who claimed to have been looking for change.  When Thames approached the truck, he was shot. He was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Investigation by Hermitage Precinct detectives and patrol officers, along with information provided through Crime Stoppers, led to the identification of Wilson as the suspected gunman. Wilson was living with a relative and traveled about the area on a bicycle.

Wilson is being charged with aggravated assault, vehicle burglary and evading arrest.  He was convicted of aggravated assault in 2007 and received a five-year sentence.
