An 8-year-old girl in Cadiz admitted to lying about a woman trying to abduct her on Wednesday, according to Sgt. Scott Brown with the Cadiz Police Department.
The department responded to a call at 2:20 p.m. on West End Street, in which an 8-year-old female said a woman got out of a blue truck and began taking pictures of the house and then attempted to abduct her.
With the help of the girl and an eyewitness, the police were able to track down the woman and her driver.
They were in the area on official business and doing home inspection work, which requires photographing the outside of homes. When police questioned the girl a second time, she confessed to making up the story about the woman approaching her and attempting to abduct her.
"We are glad the attempted abduction turned out to be false," Brown said. "We are also appreciative of the witness who was paying attention to what was going on in his neighborhood and reported those details to the police. Neighborhood vigilance is a big key in helping police solve crimes."
There will be no criminal charges filed, and the Cadiz Police Department closed the investigation.
