NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Pot holes aren't the only thing making for a bumpy ride along parts of I-440. The grooved pavement is drawing complaints from drivers who find the uneven surface a challenge to drive on. The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the grooved pavement is a safety feature designed to help drivers maintain tire traction during heavy rain or snow. Unlike most interstate roadways which are made of asphalt, I-440 is mostly concrete. The surface can become extremely slick during heavy rain.
