NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- Tennessee's Annual Sales Tax Holiday kicks off at 12:01am on Friday (Aug 1st) and ends on Sunday at 11:59pm. Families can save on clothing, school supplies and computers, but some restrictions do exist. Here's what you need to know:

CLOTHING:
Items must cost $100 or less per item in order to be exempt from sales tax. Items normally sold as one (shoes) can't be split in two in order to fall under the $100 per item limit.

Jewelry, bags, sports and recreational equipment is not covered.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES:

As with clothing, an item which costs $100 or less will be exempt. Items such as reference books, CDs, printers and printer ink DO NOT count as a school supplies. When shopping, think of basics when considering what is exempt.

Items such as binders, crayons, blue, paints, etc. are what fall under the tax-free exemption.

COMPUTERS:
Computers must cost $1,500 or less to be considered sales tax-exempt. This includes laptops and tablets. These items must be purchased as one complete unit. Buying computer components separately (keyboard, monitor, hard drive) does not count as being tax exempt.

Not covered are computer parts, speakers, keyboards and scanner not attached to a CPU. Software not included with the purchase of a computer are not included. USB and storage drives, PDAs, E-Readers, video game consoles, printers and printer supplies will not be considered sales tax exempt.

--It's also important to note you don't have to be a student in order to enjoy the savings. Anyone can make a purchase. If you plan on using layaway, the qualified items are still exempt from sales tax when final payment is made, even if it's after the exempt period.
