According to Gallatin police, the call came in just after 5 a.m. in the 1700 block of Woods Ferry Road in south Gallatin.
The homeowner told police a man broke into his home, and that he fired at him. Officer combed the area for hours and searched neighbors cars as they left the area.
But as the morning progressed, investigators determined that the man made up the story. He's now charged with filing a false report. He's also charged with reckless endangerment because a 2-year-old child was in the next room when the gun was fired.
Police say the man worked for Tennessee Prison for Women.
